sundays
Today was a long but good day. Donor Day at work means me getting there two hours early and having to entertain board members and their children. My throat is raspy—THANK YOU MADDY FOR I THINK MAYBE GETTING ME SICK ON THURSDAY—and the impending arrival of my period made this extraordinarily amusing, I’m sure you can imagine.
At one point to entertain the kids, my boss had us release 10,000 lady bugs into the green houses in order to combat the aphids—of which there are none, my other boss informs me. Anyway so it was really amazing and what not watching all the lady bugs fly around and land on all the plants…and then they started dying. I don’t know why. Obviously a few were dead in the container, but there were hundreds all over the floor. And some of them were just walking on the floor and got stepped on. Others were drowning in the hydroponic tanks. Others would land on the plants and just die there. IT WAS AWFUL. Hundreds of dead lady bugs is perhaps the most depressing sight I will ever witness.
AND THEN, I started getting watery eyes and a runny nose and a headache and basically all of the symptoms I get when I’m allergic to something. When I leave the greenhouse, I’m fine. Go back in the greenhouse, allergies. The only logical conclusion: I am allergic to lady bugs. I mean, in what other context will you ever be exposed to that many lady bugs in such close quarters? I swear to god I’m allergic.
But then I came home and went to a dinner party and had two different types of home made dandelion wine, which is just as disgusting as it sounds, but still cool. Then I drank lots of box wine and made guacamole and ate it all by myself and watched true blood and all in all not a bad day.
Summer is so close to being over. Sofia next weekend, then Victoria comes, then I’m in Chicago, then great Gokey and Crevey road trip through Canada, and then SCHOOL. Oh thank the lord.
